The students are training for careers in healthcare, graphic design, restaurant management, and automotive technology and it’s happening in a bigger, better, space. ABC7 News went to Silver Spring for a look at the new and improved Thomas Edison High School of Technology .

Principal Shawn Krasa said, “We have a brand new state-of-the-art facility. Students come from all 25 high schools in Montgomery County.”

17-year-old Joaquin Izquierdo is a senior at Edison and said, “The rooms are relatively bigger and more modern and the hallways are wider.”

Modern amenities that Cosmetology Teacher Toni Quan says make a big difference in the Instruction and learning.

“Hooded dryers that dry efficiently without making a lot of noise. Lots of wonderful flow to the overall area so the space is just awesome!” she said.

Although the building has changed, the school’s focus will stay the same: preparing young people for college and careers.

Edison students aren’t just taking classes, they’re earning professional licenses and certifications as well as college credit.

“So by the time I get into college I can go to that college hospital if they have one and say, I have medical experience, take me on and just put me to work,” said Senior Lauren Black.

Students attend Edison every day for 2 hours and take the remainder of their classes at their home school.
