Man shot near vigil for teen murder victim in Montgomery County, police say
GERMANTOWN, Md. (WJLA) —
A 21-year-old man was shot near a vigil held for a teen murder victim Tuesday night in Germantown, Maryland.
The unidentified man is in serious condition. He was initially treated at the Germantown Emergency Center, but was transported to an area trauma center.
Police say the victim may have been driven by an acquaintance to Germantown Emergency Center.
The incident took place in the area of Sage Way and Cinnamon Drive.
Investigators report they were aware of the vigil held in the area near the shooting. More than 60 people gathered for a vigil held for 18-year-old Genesis McCarter-Berretto.
The teen girl was killed, and a boy was wounded in a shooting last weekend during a prom after party at a home in Frederick, Maryland.
Police arrested 17-year-old Ean Lanell Davis-Lattimore. He was charged as an adult with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.
Authorities are investigating to determine if the shooting is connected to the vigil.
