Police: Bicyclist struck and killed in Wheaton

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday night in Wheaton.

Police said the 47-year-old man was traveling on the roadway of westbound Randolph Road approaching Goodhill Road around 6:26 p.m. when he was struck by a 2019 BMW M240i that was traveling in the same direction.

The bicyclist crossed the westbound lanes of Randolph Road in a southwest direction and collided with the BMW for reasons still under investigation, police said. The victim, who will be identified once family members have been notified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, he was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the BMW, identified as Yale Abraham Tankus, 57, of Silver Spring, remained at the scene. He was not injured.

All westbound lanes of Randolph Road and two lanes of eastbound traffic of Randolph Road between Connecticut Avenue and Goodhill Road were closed following the collision.
