A Fairfax County police officer has been charged in the death of his 6-month-old daughter.
Jason Colley, of Monrovia, Maryland, turned himself in Tuesday morning at the Frederick County Law Enforcement Center, a day after an indictment was obtained by prosecutors. He faces charges of child abuse in the first degree resulting in death, child abuse in the first degree resulting in severe physical injury and felony assault in the first degree.
According to police, Harper Colley died on Oct. 31 after sustaining the injuries that led to her death on Sept. 19.
Maryland State Police notified Fairfax County Police on April 20 that Jason Colley was the suspect following a criminal investigation. He was then relieved of duty and all of his law enforcement authority and placed on paid administrative leave.
Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin Roessler said Tuesday the charges against Jason Colley are “abhorrent” and that he has taken steps to have him fired “in accordance with Fairfax County Personnel Regulations and the Code of Virginia.”
Jason Colley is being held on $100,000 bond. Trial dates have not yet been set.
