Former DC swat team officer at scene of Navy Yard shooting discusses California tragedy
WASHINGTON (ABC7) —
A former DC swat team member who was one of the first on the scene of the Navy Yard shooting in DC addresses the mass shooting in California.
Hogan Samels responded to the 2013 Navy Yard shooting and he said the entire law enforcement community feels the loss of Sergeant Ron Helus who was one of 13 people killed in a mass shooting at a bar in a Los Angeles suburb.
The shooter, a former Marine who reportedly had mental health issues, shot and killed 12 people at a country music bar in a Los Angeles suburb.
Samels, who teaches future police officers at Montgomery County, says the sergeant followed his training properly when responding to the shooting.
