Man arrested after brandishing machete at Northwest D.C. Walmart

A man was arrested Saturday after he walked inside a Walmart in Northwest D.C. and brandished a machete, police said.

Ismael Hernandez, 19, of no fixed address, has been charged with possessing a prohibited weapon.

According to police, Hernandez was walking southbound on Georgia Avenue, NW around 5:17 p.m. Saturday when he took a machete out of his waistband, walked inside the Walmart Supercenter at 5929 Georgia Avenue and brandished the weapon.

A video from eyewitness Curtis Mozie shows the man being held by police at the Walmart after Mozie said the man pulled out the machete in the store and threatened shoppers. At that time, officers arrested the man.
