Maryland man killed after crashing dirt bike into truck
MECHANICSVILLE, Md. (ABC7) —
A 24-year-old Maryland man was killed Sunday afternoon when he crashed a dirt bike into another vehicle.
Benjamin Daniel Warring, 24, of Mechanicsville, died from injuries sustained the crash in Mechanicsville.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office said Warring failed to stop at a stop sign in the area of Dockser Drive and Sky View Drive in the Golden Beach neighborhood in Mechanicsville and crashed into the side of a small pickup truck.
Warring was receiving treatment for incapacitating injuries when he suddenly stopped breathing.
He was then transported to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center for
treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.
Warring was driving a 2003 Yamaha YZ125 that was being operated illegally operated in the roadway, on Dockser Drive. Several witnesses told police that Warring was driving in a reckless manner and appeared to be filming himself with a cell phone.
Speed, cellular phone use, lack of protective equipment and failure to obey a traffic control
device are all considered by the sheriff’s office to be contributing factors in the crash.
Warring collided into the passenger side of the truck, a 1997 Nissan XE. The driver of the truck, 21-year-old Vincent Wood, of Mechanicsville, was not injured.
