Five people have been taken to a hospital after two cars crashed in Gaithersburg and hit a pedestrian around noon Friday.

ABC7 has learned that a Montgomery County transportation worker who was working outside of a vehicle was hit. He was seriously injured but is expected to survive.

Three people were being evaluated and treated with serious Priority 1 or Priority 2 injuries and two others are Priority 3, according to Pete Piringer, PIO for Montgomery Fire and Rescue.

One of the cars hit a power box and traffic lights were knocked out.

The crash happened at Woodfield Road and Midcounty Highway. Traffic was blocked and drivers should expect significant delays, Gaithersburg Police say.
