If Mexico makes it to fifth World Cup game, Bud Light will buy beer for all of California

At the start of the season, it didn't seem likely that Bud Light would have to pay up after the company promised all of Philadelphia free beer if the Eagles won the Super Bowl. Then it happened.

With the World Cup underway, the company is making a similar promise.

On Thursday, Bud Light tweeted it would be watching Monday's match against Brazil. So will we, Bud Light. So will we...

As Mexico advances to the Round of 16, it is close to making it to the 5th game of the World Cup, which it hasn’t done for the past six World Cups. If Mexico does win one more game, getting into the 5th game, Bud Light says it will give fans in California free beer.

Bud Light bet that Mexico would do this before the World Cup started, and now Bud Light is keeping that promise.

If Mexico makes it to the 5th game of the World Cup, Bud Light will release details on how to get the free beer.

Bud Light released a statement on why it chose California to receive free beer if El Tri wins:

Dilly Dilly and congratulations to Team Mexico on making it to the World Cup Round of 16. Bud Light cannot wait to celebrate with Californians should Mexico break the curse of the fifth game. All we’ll share for now is that Bud Light will bestow a royal rebate upon the citizens of California that can be used on Bud Light purchases. We will disclose full details should El Tri prevail, but for now we do not want to jinx them.
Why California? California is awesome and we know that El Tri has a huge fan base there. In fact, during the last World Cup, Californians issued twice as many social posts about Team Mexico than any other state. Bud Light is all about helping consumers celebrate the successes of their favorite sports teams, whether it’s winning the Super Bowl or making it to the fifth game of the World Cup for the first time in 32 years. Bud Light wants to show up big in these moments and help fans celebrate with America’s favorite light lager and that’s exactly what we plan to do in California.
