Steny Hoyer admitted to GW Hospital with pneumonia

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer has been hospitalized with pneumonia, according to his office.

Hoyer (D-Md.) is in the George Washington University Hospital after being admitted on Tuesday.

Hoyer, 79, is No. 2 in the Democratic leadership in the U.S. House. He has served since 1981 in Maryland’s 5th District, which includes portions of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties, and all of Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties.

Katie Grant, a spokeswoman for Hoyer, issued the following statement Wednesday:

Mr. Hoyer was admitted to the George Washington University Hospital yesterday and was diagnosed with pneumococcal pneumonia. He is being treated with antibiotics and resting, and is expected to make a full recovery quickly. He looks forward to being back at work very soon.
