Washington Spirit trades Crystal Dunn’s rights for 2 players

    The Washington Spirit has sent the rights to forward Crystal Dunn to the North Carolina Courage in exchange for Taylor Smith and Ashley Hatch.

    Dunn, who was league's Most Valuable Player in 2015, spent last season overseas with Chelsea, but the Spirit retained her rights. The trade was announced Tuesday.

    Dunn scored three goals in 11 appearances with Chelsea. She also has 22 goals in 57 appearances with the U.S. national team.

    The Spirit also traded up to acquire the No. 3 overall pick in Thursday's draft, sending the No. 6 pick and Lindsay Agnew to the Houston Dash. The Spirit also have the No. 1 overall pick.

    The league also announced that the league's teams would play a 24-game season in 2018, split equally between home and away matches.
