Fans react to Redskins trading for Chiefs QB Alex Smith

At Theismann’s Bar and Restaurant, television screens showed various sporting events and customers chatted about the latest news with the Washington Redskins.

Evan Williams, a server and bartender and the restaurant, says his Redskins fandom goes back generations.

“Really for the last couple of seasons — what’s going to happen with Kirk?” he said of the team. “What’s the deal with the starting quarterback position?”

A deal made headlines late on Tuesday. The Redskins reportedly bringing Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith on board.

“I think Kirk Cousins resembles the DC mentality, but I liked Alex Smith as a college quarterback. I think Alex Smith is a good NFL quarterback,” said Chase Cannon, who came out to the restaurant on Wednesday afternoon.

Reportedly, the Redskins are handing over cornerback Kendall Fuller along with a 2018 third-round pick to the Chiefs to get Smith.

“I say give him a chance, you know? Everybody deserves a chance,” Redskins fan Suzanne Sincavage said.

“Fingers crossed!” Williams said. “And, you know, Super Bowl 2018-2019 season I’m ready! Let’s do this!”
