Winter Weather Advisory issued for DC area Sunday night into Monday morning

Winter Weather Advisory issued for DC tonight into Monday morning

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the DC Metro area and points north and west from tonight through 10 a.m. Monday morning. Light snow, freezing rain and rain will overspread the region after sunset, beginning closer to 11 p.m. tonight and will continue through much of Monday. Additional wintry mix of freezing rain and snow will be possible Monday night into Tuesday morning as this complex system moves east.

Below is a look at how much to expect overnight into Monday morning. For the most part, it will fall as a mix for the immediate DC Metro, but areas farther north and west into Frederick, MD, the Panhandle of West Virginia and points north and west will have the chance for a couple inches of snow.

As many of the main roads have been pre-treated already, we think the roads may be OK, but exercise caution tomorrow morning and be sure to wake up with Eileen and Veronica for Good Morning Washington before heading out the door. They will keep you updated on any possible delays and cancellations to start the work week.

Additional snow and ice will be possible Monday night into Tuesday morning with a higher threat for accumulating ice for areas to the north and west of D.C. Some locations may have the possibility for a tenth to a quarter inch of ice, leading to future issuance of more advisories and even warnings. Warmer air will move overhead by Tuesday morning, changing everything over to rain and helping wash out any ice and mix.
